For the first six months of 2017, I watched the world unravel around me and slip through my fingers. I collected the first page of every Chicago Tribune issue from February 1st
until June 15th. Five days later, the fire mentioned above marked the beginning of the end of my time in the US. This project focuses on the feeling of powerlessness over the
information overload that occurred during that timeframe. As an alien residing in the US at the time, I felt the constant need to prove my worthiness to stay in the country. In the age of fake news and digital media, the gesture of seeking a physical copy of the paper goes hand in hand with the absurdity of the events we were living at the time. This video performance captures the longing to exert control over chaos. The outsider
is constantly exposed to diminishing rhetoric yet remains voiceless. In that state of shock, the words in the newspaper become mere signifiers. Detached of their meaning,
they are like radiographies when first scrutinized by the layman patient: enthralling, yet undecipherable and beautifully threatening.
