IV Jornada de Videoarte del Escorial (Fourth El Escorial Videoart Festival)

El Escorial Videoart Festival is a microproject by Take Away Process in collaboration with Dora Román, the film school and Medinaceli Theater.  Participants include art collectives, artists, agents and intermediaries. The festival is open to the public so as to promote videoart in the Madrid surrounding area, where, we believe, the art community is isolated.

I have been awarded a research grant for a two-week stay at the University of Alcalá. The funds will go towards the project entitled “The Female Body as a Receptacle of the Trauma of Displaced Identity in 21st Media Arts”.

During the week of January 28 to February 3, I had the opportunity to participate in the project for the Internationalization of Creative Cultural Industries in Matera, Italy. This five-day training project is funded by the European Commission and includes artists and creative agents from eight EU countries.

"Numbers are used to quantify, rank, prioritize, calculate, and measure. Depending on their context, numbers can be holy, encouraging, devastating, superficial, or so commonplace they are barely noticed. Many works that feature repetition or are part of a series inherently reference numbers. The Nth Degree is a juried exhibition of work that uses numbers or mathematics. These influences can be conveyed boldly, subtly, contextually, literally, or simply as inspiration."

In the tradition of Charlotte Moorman’s Avant-Garde Festivals, Dick Higgins’ Great Bear Pamphlets, and La Monte Young’s An Anthology of Chance Operations, the Present Tense Pamphlets feature an expanded array of score-based practices.

"For EXPO CHICAGO 2016, SAIC alumna and artist Edra Soto (MFA 2000) continues her curatorial practice, organizing an exhibition of 25 artists from SAIC’s 2016 graduating class. This selection highlights emerging talent from Canada, China, Iran, Mexico, Spain, the US and more. In coordinating this show, Soto notes, “No matter how drastic, diverse or monitored our upbringing is, humans’ natural instincts and necessities for mating, surviving and communicating may perpetually remain.”
